Veterinary tonometers

Veterinary tonometry is a procedure for measuring the intraocular pressure of the eye in animals. There are several methods of veterinary tonometry, but the most commonly used is non-contact or applanatory tonometry. Non-contact tonometry uses a blast of air or a pulse of light to measure intraocular pressure, while appplanation tonometry involves gently applying a special sensor to the cornea of the eye and then measuring the response of this structure to pressure. Intraocular pressure measurement is important in the diagnosis and monitoring of eye diseases in animals, such as glaucoma and ciliary bodyitis.
