Otoacoustic emission
Otoacoustic emissions
Otoacoustic emission (OAE) is a non-invasive diagnostic method used in medicine, including veterinary medicine, to assess auditory function in humans and animals. It involves recording the acoustic response of the inner ear to sound stimuli. During the test, sounds of different frequencies are presented to the patient's ears using headphones or special probes placed in the ear. The acoustic response generated by the inner ear is recorded by a microphone placed in the probe and analyzed to assess auditory function. OAEs are used, among others, in newborn screening tests and in the diagnosis of hearing disorders in humans and animals.
