About the project
Innovative zinc-magnesium surgical sutures and wires were created thanks to the cooperation of various units as part of a research and development project co-financed by the National Centre for Research and Development and the Operational Programme of the European Union.
The originator and creator of the manufacturing technology is the outstanding scientific staff from the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, and the author of the scalable commercial production line is a team of recognized engineers from the Stalowa Wola company Intermech.
At various stages, eminent scientists from the Institute of Plastic Processing in Poznań and an amazing team of veterinarians from the Veterinary Clinic in Wrocław also actively participated in the research work.

Conducted research
The product has been fully tested in the laboratory both in terms of mechanical properties (AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow and the Institute of Plastic Forming in Poznań) and in terms of biocompatibility and tissue tolerance (Institute of Zoology and Biomedical Research of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow).
The zinc-magnesium threads/wires have also undergone a series of in vivo tests at the Animal Surgery Clinic in Wrocław, which confirmed the excellent properties of the product.
Based on the positive results of laboratory and in vivo tests, the product has obtained a company certificate confirming that it is safe and can be used in veterinary surgery.

Intended use of the product
The device is intended for use in the treatment of veterinary patients.
Recommended applications include:
1. orthopaedic procedures, including in particular bone fixations and stabilisation
Implants;
2. maxillofacial surgery,
3. general surgery.

Contraindications
Allergy to any of the elements included in the material. No other
Recognized.

Material structure and composition
Monofilament undyed zinc-magnesium alloy metal wire (ZnMg0.002÷0.005):
Zn min. 99.993%
Mg 0.002 ÷ 0.005%
It may contain traces of other elements such as iron, copper or selenium.

Tissue Support Profile
A 50% loss of tissue support capacity occurs:
1. for wires ø0.8mm – after 30 days,
2. for Ø1mm wires – after 45 days.

Absorption
Complete absorption of thread/wire:
1. with a diameter of ø0.8mm – after a period of approx. 1 year,
2. with a diameter of ø1mm – after a period of approx. 2 years.

Shelf life and storage
The shelf life is 9 months from the date of production.
The product should be stored tightly closed in a dry place at room temperature .
Directions for use

Disinfection / Sterilization
The device was washed in an ultrasonic cleaner, then disinfected in a 70% alcohol solution and packed in a medical sleeve (for sterilization). However, it is recommended to disinfect the product again immediately before use. To do this, immerse the thread/wire in a 70% alcohol solution for about 30 minutes. The product should not be autoclaved. The effect of other sterilization methods on the material has not been studied.

Fastening / Binding
Due to the plastic properties of the zinc alloy used, the binding of the wires and their twisting during the crimping of the knots should be performed at a slow pace (i.e. slower than in the case of non-resorbable steel wires). Fast and violent movements can cause the material to crack when twisting.
