A test for the rapid and simple detection or exclusion of peritonitis in cats. The test distinguishes transudate from exudate by observing the reaction of a sample of fluid from the abdominal cavity or chest with the solution in a tube. In the presence of proteins characteristic of exudate, tear-like, misty or streak-like shapes form in the solution. Transudate is completely dissolved in solution during sedimentation.

Procedure

  1. Collect the sample using a syringe from the cat's peritoneal cavity or pleura.
  2. Add 3-5 drops of the collected liquid to the dye tube.
  3. Mix the liquid and the dye thoroughly using a dropper.
  4. Open the reaction tube containing the acetic acid solution.
  5. Gently add one drop of the prepared mixture to the reaction tube. Do not shake the test tube!
  6. Read the result.

Each pack contains
